installer pay
if i was to go the route of working for a company for a while, such as safelite, what do these guys usually pay to glass installers. this would be a great way for me to ride out the bad economy, while learning the replacement side of the business. do any of you work for safelite or another large installation company. is it salary plus bonuses?
Re: installer pay
every big company pay according to ur experience i'm working with a big company in socal with a 10 years experience and they payme more than 20 an hour but with people with no experience i think they start at 10 bucks an hour as a trainee.

Re: installer pay
It's going to depend on your experience, training (if any), and in some cases availability.
I think the average installer makes $20+ an hour and in some cases they make a percentage of the actually install.
Just FYI.....

Re: installer pay
Per piece pay avg is
Windshields $34.50
Tempered $26.50
Remove & Reinstall 20%-35% of invoice
Windshield Repairs $12-$15 the first repair and $5-$10 the second
This is not my pay scale but this is what a tech from a big corp shop brought in to me and wanted me to match it.
Most companies would start you between $7.25 - $12 as a trainee and temp for at least a yr.
With 3 or more yrs $15-$25
We do pay are mobile techs a little more because they have more do deal with than the in shop techs. But you have to have at least 3 yrs exp and work for us for at least 6months before I let you get in one of my vans. Than I ride with you for 2 weeks to make sure you know how to route your jobs ,treat my customers and do the job right (safe) the first time.
But once you make it past all that mess I'm a good guy to work for, I pay you an hourly rate plus commission for each job you sale . Than I let you have every weekend off and all major holidays too. I let you drive my van home but if you use it for personal use you keep track of mileage and you pay for the gas. ( I do have GPS on my vans so I know where they are at all times).
I would stick with doing repairs you will make more.

TXGlassman ,
What GPS system do you use to track your vans? I have been thinking about this.
