Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
Use these ideas as a repair tech to get a relationship with the local car washes and lube centers. I introduced windshield repair to Jiffy Lube back in the late 80's and spent some time with the car wash industry....they had me on the front cover of their national industry magazine back in the 90's. It is a great place to do windshield repairs..........
Use this insight to visit your local car washes and lube centers to get an ongoing relationship with them to help them discover the hidden cash in their business and you will make a lot too!.........
Go where there are vehicles! and alot of them! Some car washes have 5-600 cars a day roll through their businesses and lube centers have 50-100+ days!
BE SURE TO CHECK IT OUT!
Here's an article I wrote directed toward the Car Wash and Lube Center Owners.........hope it helps you think about NEW WAYS to CAPTURE BUSINESS AND HOW TO TALK TO THE OWNER/MANAGER OF THE CAR WASH OR LUBE CENTER
!
Easily Add 60 to 150K (or more) to Your Lube Center or Car Wash in the Next 12 Months With This Proven System of Rock Chip Windshield Repair !
(and NEVER have to SELL anything)
What’s the count? If you own or manage a car wash or lube center you are always looking at the count. How many cars did we wash today? How many cars did we lube and what was our average car ticket?
You want as many customers as you can get and have high ticket averages while providing a service that brings your customers back over and over.
Never SELL them or ASK for any money directly from them!
You already have customers coming to your business and hopefully in high numbers. Why not offer them a service when needed?
If your customer has a rock chip in their windshield you can offer to help (at no cost to them – as I mentioned above) and if they don’t have rock chip you can give them a coupon for when they get one!
Now there are cases where the customer will not want you to go through the insurance company or may not have full comprehensive insurance coverage. In that case you can always accept cash! I usually reduce the amount charged when they pay cash.
Would Adding an Additional $5000 (OR MORE)
Per Month of Pure Profit Interest You?
Adding windshield repair services is an obvious answer without adding pressure or just another service to increase your ticket.
IMPORTANT FACT: Most individuals who drive newer cars carry comprehensive insurance on their cars and most insurance companies will waive the customers deductible and pay for windshield repair (saves them the cost of replacement) and they will not increase the customers rates!
How cool is that?
1. The insurance company pays the bill
2. Customer pays nothing out of their pocket
3. Customer’s insurance rates will not go up
4. Your ticket average goes up without taking any more cash from the customer
More good news:
1. No additional time is needed – you can perform repairs while car is in getting.
2. Most repairs are done in less than 5 minutes!
3. Average cost of materials for each repair is under a buck ($1.00).
4. Average repair will be billed at between $50-70.
YES THAT’S RIGHT! You can do a windshield repair while the car is being lubed or in the case of a car wash, while it is being dried off. In fact, the majority of repairs can be done in under 5 minutes.
The average repair invoice is between $50 and $70 dollars. The cost of materials to do the repair is under $1! Did you get that? Under one dollar!
What’s The Customer’s Point of View? (What’s in it for them?)
Most people are happy to have the work done, it saves them time to go to a glass shop. You can fully guarantee the repair for them and do all the paperwork (takes a few moments). They love the service because it saves them time, hassle and money.
If the repair isn’t fixed (as we all know) the rock chip has the potential to split the whole windshield and then they most likely will have to pay their deductible and possibly the replacement cost of a new windshield.
Why Your Customers Love This Service:
1. Saves them time
2. Saves them the hassle of having to get an appointment and go to a separate windshield shop
3. Saves them money
4. They aren’t being “sold” anything.
5. The perception of “adding one more thing” to their ticket isn’t there
6. They don’t have to do any paper work (you do all that in minutes)

Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
That sure is a fast repair time.
Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
Ha Ha! You're right about that!........when you're running back and forth with repairs on the car coming out of the wash, some take longer, as you know and some are fairly quick.......but the point is, "repairs don't take very long - so the customers are not too inconvenienced" We all know some are hairy and stubborn. Remember this is just a piece to gain ideas from to get the relationship.........!!

Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
I'm with you Screenman....that is very fast (too fast). If the car just came out of the wash, it will take 5-10 minutes to dry out and cool the chip prior to the repair and the repair itself will take 15-30 minutes, So, in reality you are looking at 20-40 minutes per repair. I like to be up front with my customers about the time frame required to do a proper repair. You can lose a customer by doing bad repairs and by holding them from their busy schedules. Just being realistic....

Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
tk4 and screenman. Five minutes does not constitute a good repair. I tell my customers that my intent is to repair and increase clarity. I have a good relationship with them and they call me back.
Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
WOW - You guys are missing the point...........tell them this: "usually the repair will be done by the time you are ready to leave the car wash, give or take a few minutes" scratch the 5 minute thing, you are missing the point......it is to let them know that they won't be TOO inconvenienced with very much more time at the wash (if any)......DONT GET STUCK ON THE 5 MINUTE THING - IT'S NOT THE POINT!
I have done thousands of repairs at car washes all over the country...........the point of the post was to help you gain some insight into the car wash owner and how to approach them with the idea of doing repairs for their customers........the 5 minute thing maybe should be changed to read "doesnt take much time and in fact, in most cases you'll be out of here when they are done drying off your car"

Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
mrchips - Do you actually perform windshield repairs or are you just in the business of selling your book on how to succeed in the W/S repair business?
Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
hey t4k, ya still do some. I have done thousands over the years, had a chain of retail WS replacement/repair shops (Auto Glass Express) along the way and even invented and manufactured a WS repair system company that made WS repair systems in the 80's - sold in all 50 states and in 7 different countries......
Sold it back in the 90's and went back to the repair side only. Introduced and implemented WSR to Jiffy Lube international, Goodyear Tire Stores in the Northwest and the Car Wash industry. Did all the electronic billing for windshield repair with Jiffy Lube with a company we started called Safe Data Management (SDM). That was when there were only about 4 major manufactures of kits and no one did independent billing for anyone. Thats when the networks started.....boy a lot has come and gone over the years and a lot has changed.
Spend most time now training others.........you obviously haven't read my book and this is not the place to promote it, so I really don't want to discuss that here. I am just adding a few comments and suggestions, in the forum, from my experiences that might help others improve their results. As you know there is never enough time to make all the mistakes ourselves (even though at times it still feels like I am) Plus I am still learning myself!
Since you asked about my background - there's a little about it.

Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
I've heard these comments before........just can't place my finger on it! I don't care who you are, what you've done, what you've written! It's just bad for business selling a 5 minute repair. Give it a rest.
Re: Directed at Car Washes and Lube Centers
relax dude...........never was trying to sell the "5 minute" repair......just trying to give an idea or two of how to get into the car wash and lube center market, that's all.
