Trouble with tent location

Post by cleanerimage »

I have been having problems with setting up a tent location lately. I try and find abandonded lots and get kicked off cause I am told I will get fined and the owner will get fined. Has anyone else had this problem as well and what can be done to avoid it. Do I need to get approval from the city and why would that be necessary? How would I go about getting approved or if its on private property does it matter?

Yes, all of it matters depending on where you are. In Utah, they do not like "street vendors" which is what they consider us when we set up a tent. It is their way of regulating and ensuring the community against fly by night activities.

So here I am in the process of FINALLY being able to get my tent set up. I have gotten the Business license, the use permit from the city for the location, the letter from the property owner etc. Tomorrow is the big day to find out if I have been approved. It has only been 2+ months.

hmm. sounds rediculous to me. what business is it of the city if you are on private property and have the permission of the property owners. I see signs and advertisements, car washes and hot dog salesmen all the time. Sounds like the man tryin to step in again at every level he can.... even the city level. Now I would understand completely if it was on city property or on private property where you didnt have permission. Seems to me that if you are on private property and you have permission then where is their jusidiction end? Sorry just venting i guess

Even if it is your own private property there are rules you must follow. Always check with the city before setting up a tent or even a sign for that matter. Most cities regulate the number of signs you can have, as well as the size, location, and style of those signs. It's better to do everything by the book.
