Hi, I was wondering what is needed to repair windshields on heavy trucks. Do you use a ladder or is there a better way to reach the windshield? I was wondering about just protecting the hood and resting against it while I did the repair. What works best?
Thanks
Mark

I would say a complete windshield repair system, a hood protector, a centering tool, and a ladder.

Tip the hood back and stand on sturdy part of engine, like the top. Ask the driver or whoever where to stand. You will need a ladder. Some chips can be reached by just standing on the tire. Accessibility is the biggest problem.
There is usually a space right in front of the WS where you can set your tools while you are up there. It helps to have a helper hand you stuff from the ground if you can't take it all up with you. If you don't have good balance I wouldn't go up there. Get a good six foot step ladder. You will need this or maybe even a higher one on some cabovers and motor homes if you do these. I've always been OK with a six footer.
Lots of things on a big rig look sturdy enough to stand on. Most are not. Make sure you know where to put your feet before you wind up needing to make an insurance claim.
