Starter Windshield Repair Kits

Post by gwrp »

Can anyone advise me on what it the best winshield repair kit to purchase for someone starting a new business? It seems like there might be several unnecessary items in some of the kits that I would be purchasing for no reason, and a quite a cost. Is it better to purchase the bridge, injectors, and resins and then acquire the the rest from other sources? It seems like an excessive amount of money is would be spent for items that could be purchased much cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks

Are you speaking in regards to Delta Kits, Inc WSR Kits or just WSR Kits in general.
Other than that why go through the hassle of having multiple companies equipment? If you ever had a question or concern you would have multiple contacts just to resolve your issue.

Purchasing from 1 supplier would be and is much better than multiple. I have been with Delta Kits for some time now and I appreciate evrything that is available to me.
Your actually not correct about something. That is that everything that comes in the kits will be used at some point or another. I honestly thought the Suction Cup Sticks (used to remove the suction cups from the glass) would never be used up until here lately!!

Alot of guys here use the cleansing jar that comes in the kit and some used AIR! to aid in the cleaning of the equipment. I use them both!

Even the 2 packs of burs included in the kit, You will find you may like one better than the other. Who knows I use them both.

So I think overall I would re-evaluate the decision of not purchasing everything in a KIT WHOLE rather than purchasing individually! Also Your expense in the long run would be much more purchasing individually than together in a kit!

Give Korey @ Delta a Call! SUPER GREAT GUY! I like to refer to Korey as my 24hr. Customer Care  ! He is exactly that!

Here is something to consider. You may be able to buy some of the parts from a variety of different vendors and save a few bucks on a windshield repair system, ours or anyone else's for that matter, but if your time is worth anything I think you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. Let's say you spend an extra day piecing together a system. How many repairs can you do in a day? Two? Five? Ten? Even if you are just starting out your time is far better spent marketing your business than trying to save a couple of bucks on a tool.

I found this out the hard way when I had my glass shop. I would run all over town trying to save money on tools and supplies, when I could buy them all from one vendor in a matter of minutes. I eventually figured out that even though it goes against my grain to spend more than absolutely necessary for something, my time is worth far more making money than saving money. Some people spend all their time saving money and never have time to make money, and others spend all their time focusing on volume but ignore the cost of doing business and end up giving their service away. I still struggle with this from time to time but have learned that it's not how much you make or save that matters, but what you put in your pocket at the end of the day. It's all about the bottom line.

Unfortunately we find that many new technicians wait, and wait, and wait, and then put one toe in the water rather than dive right in and start making money. Whether you buy a Delta Kits windshield repair system or another brand, the longer you wait to jump in the longer it will take you to make money. That's not to say that you should not carefully evaluate your options and get the best deal you can, but don't trip over a dollar trying to pick up a dime.

I have a friend that has been talking about getting into windshield repair and headlight restoration for over a year now. Because he is worried about this, and worried about that, he has passed up thousands of dollars in sales. Most windshield repair systems come with enough products to pay for themselves many times over, so you really have nothing to lose.

Even if you save a few dollars, which you will, by buying a complete kit from Delta when you have a problem with ANYTHING you have one call to make, you won't spend the next 2 hours trying to return something, you'll make one call and it'll be handled ASAP. So do what I did spend the xtra $$$$ and sleep at night knowing your covered!!!

If I was starting all over today here is what I would order:
-EZK 121(you might think you only need one bridge but I can't tell you how many times the customer has more than one break, at least in my experience)
-ENT 201(the only thing in this that I have only used once is the crack expander)
-Slide Hammer
-Extra Inspection Mirror for use with your second bridge
-U.V. Bubble Dome---alot of tech's don't like these but I love it...first off it draws alot of attention and gets people asking what you are doing, second it allows you to work in weather if necessary, third I like to point my hair dryer into when it is cold and it keeps the heat circulating around the break.
-Bullseye maker and star break maker(you got to be able to duplicate damage and learn on a practice windshield.

Believe me you will need everything that is in the kits Delta sells at some point or another and you don't want to be in the middle of a customer's repair and realize you need something you don't have. Brent and his crew are top notch and nothing but a pleasure to deal with. I honestly believe that if they didn't think you would need it they wouldn't put it in their kits. Take your time do your research and talk with lots of suppliers and customers of those suppliers. Go to training at several places and go with your gut. I chose Delta because they answered all my questions and never pressured me to make a decision and after further analysis I just felt comfortable with them. I know all systems must work or they wouldn't still be in business but I chose the company I wanted to have a long term business relationship with.

Good luck and search this forum when you have time as there is a plethora of info on it.
