Suggestions please

So the city nixed my plans of setting up a tent. They said they wouldn't "allow" such a thing. Like they have some right to restrict me anyway. Since I don't feel like fighting such things in court right now I'll just do as they wish until I can get the change together to fight them. Anyway, until that time I need a different approach. A tent is out. What are other effective ways to capture retail customers? I'm going to look for some fleet work but right now I need everything I can get. What is the most effective way of finding retail customers, in your opinions?

Check your surrounding cities and counties, they may be more lax and allow for "tents". Research your city/county laws, then you will be able to ask them more specific questions.

If you notice other WSR operations in your area that operate "tent" locations, ask them how they are able to operate legally. There is always a loop hole. But its also a gamble.

Another option is to make an agreement with an existing business, so you do not have to have a "tent" location.

Note: The word "tent" is often a deterrent for upscale counties/citiy communities that may offer licensing or approval. I would use the words "service area" or "customer care area", etc.

If all else fails, you do not need a "tent" for WSR. You need signage! You need signage! You need to be visible to potential customers!

Good LUck!

I do nothing but a so call Tent location, however i seldom use a tent. My wife and I travel the state and go from town to town.Populations of 14,000 to 20,000 are the best for us. We stay 2 or 3 days and move on to the next choice of towns. The first thing we do is go the city hall and check with the permit department and see what their requirements are. Some have none and some are fairly strict. Each town is different. We ask for Street Vendor requirements. Most of the time they say we need a property owners permission ( sometimes written). Some want a permit for a period of time, 10 days or more. Often times they want you to have a Bond, Insurance, and such. Every place is different so you have to ask.
This is my second time to be in this business. The first time I did the car lot, fleets, insurance companies, etc. I had very high vehicle expense and most wanted you to work for nothing.
As a street (tent) vendor you name the price, take it or leave it and very little vehicle expense.
In my experience in 2 or 3 days you will exhaust the market at a location. Move on to the next choice location. Make a route if you like and come back to a particular location every 2 or 3 weeks and you will have a new market for a couple more days.

As what a_johnson1972 have said, you should check your surrounding cities and counties, they may be more flax and allow for "tents". Research your city/county laws, then you will be able to ask them more specific questions. I think that's the best way that you can so about your problem.
