Rookie here ...if you can please help me!

I have never fixed a windshield in my life. Is the training video enough to start you in the business. I am looking at the single and double bridge. Which do you think , I should start with?I work as a full time cop and part time firefighter, this looks like a great way to supplement my income!Any other suggestions or comments please tell me now before I spend the money on the equipment. It would be deeply appreciated. Thanks ALOT!

I would say that of course you can learn from the video. I did, and i'm doing great. I think that if you can afford training, that's cool, cause you will be able to do more advanced breaks quicker. But if you cannot afford training, i wouldn't let that keep you from getting into this business.

1 or 2 bridge, I would say if you plan to do this full time, get the 2 bridges, if you plan to do this part time, 1 should be fine.

Hey Keith,
If you intend to get into the biz, here's my take, I purchased the double bridge set and will add to that. I think you cannot have to much equipment!! Training will speed things up as far as knowledge go's but there is no substitute for experience!!!! Practice, Practice, Practice. If someone comes to my place they will have their WS repaired before they leave like it or not!!!! (I get permission, sometimes under duress) Coupled with sales I've done alot of work in the short time I've had my gear. Some for Practice, some for pay. My freebee days are over now. You didn't say which "brand" of system you were considering? I have Delta and would recomend it for simplicity, ease, and the customer support. A+ to the folks in Eugene Ore. Hey Kieth,

Welcome to the forum. My advice is to go dumpster diving at a glass shop after hours and get you some practice W/S's. Read the manual, watch the video, then go out and practice on the W/S. Keep doing this over and over in that order.(Manual, Video, Practice) You will get the basics down pretty quick. After that jump on here and ask questions and also look at some of the older posted topics. Its a goldmine of information. If all else fails call Delta, they can tell you how to solve just about anything. Hope this helps. Good luck and glad to have you.

First off I'd like to commend you on being a full time cop and part time firefighter. I'm sure your community feels the same way and will miss your services if and when you decide to do w/s repair full time.

I recommend a 3rd career in addition to your other careers- you never know! Don't you ever go fishin?

Maybe you can get a family member to fix chips when you don't have time.
I personally had to have hands-on training to get the hang of it.
While the Delta bridge is a marvelous platform for Chips & Stars, my experience with cracks showed that I needed one without vacuum pump for sliding easier.

I bought a kit with the manual and video and did a lot of trying on an old windshield had lots of problems, I was foturnate enough to be able to spend a day with a super neat guy and a pr at wsr in the Dallas area Colster is the guy. He has posted a lot on this fourm. He is very sharp and he was able to let me understand the hows, whats and whens! if you can spend a day or to with him or another mentor closer to you it will save lots of time learning.
