Florida WSR I need help!!
Florida WSR I need help!!
I moved here about 8 mos ago and am looking to start a WSR business. I was just informed Florida has a law that they replace windshields for free through insurance? How does anyone do wsr in Florida if that's the case? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Re: Florida WSR I need help!!
I am from Florida but I am not there right now. Have been trying to do 6 months in the Lancaster, PA area and 6 months in in Florida in the winter months. I have found much more work in Florida and absolutely no work in Lancaster - keeping in mind that I also do headlight restoration and full (high end) detailing. The only work I have found up here in the Eastern states is in Delaware. Next year I will not be back up in this area due to lack of business. I have been very successful in gettingbsteady customers but like I said, PA is pretty much a dead zone, at least around the Lancaster area.
That being said, I see that you're on the West Coast. There are many RV resorts in that area and from first hand experience, I see where many RVs are in the need of WSR. Try soliciting to these resorts where people go for the winter months. Campgrounds have probability, but I have found those to be not profitable at all. Keep in mind, that there is a differenc from campgrounds to RV Resorts.
Headlight Restoration is a good thing to get into down here basically because over 75% of the vehicles on the road in the southern states are in a big need for this service... many people do not understand what HLR is so the first thing is to come up with a flyer that teaches people what this system has to offer. Selling would become a lot easier if only people completely understood how some of our services would benefit tums in the long run. Florida can be a lucrative area so finding the right areas and customers is a start; approaching these customers within these areas is tricky because potential customers normally will shy away from a sales pitch almost immediately. Good luck and I will be happy to share more with you, just shoot me an email.

As far as Florida having this law, keep in mind that several people that are in Florida do not live in Florida so, it reaaly depends on what insurance company people have. Many people who live in Florida have retirement homes elsewhere in the US and their insurance is from out of state.
The other thing I have found (especailly within the RV community), not everyone is comfortable with having their entire windshield replaced - they are worried that the technician may not get the windshield sealed right. RV owners that come to Florida live in these things for 6 months out of the year and they do not want to be disturbed by having to move theri unit while some RV service department orders the right windshield, this happens a lot down here. So, even though there is a law in Florida for free replacement, there is also the same law (from what I understand) for free repair as well. Many insurance companies down here will encourage a repair (if practical) over a replacement.

Some places you will find a higher concentration of chips areas where it snows you get a lot of gravel on the roads places where the soil is rocky etc. Places like Florida where its all sediment and mostly sandy you wont get as high a content of vehicles with chips that said all roads break down eventually so you certainly are not in a chip free zone just will be working in a different market than some of us so be sure to analyze your market well and fine tune your plan to fit your area
I know several people in your state do a booming buisness in Truck Stops

ok that was my general question, wanted to make sure that it was even worth my while to look into this business. I guess my only question would be how to you overcome the objection of someone saying, "no thanks they will fix it for free through insurance".

You will always have the I will just get it replaced twit I tend to answer with something like
" Dude do you really want to put a claim on your insurance and run the chance of your rate going up for $35?" Sell it

Re: Florida WSR I need help!!
i understand selling the service, been in sales my whole life. What I don't understand is under what circumstance someone would call me over their insurance, outside of the fact their insurance may go up (which we all know more than likely isn't going to happen)? If I put myself in the customers shoes, I would def call my insurance and if my rates didn't go up then I would have the whole windshield replaced. I understand their is a avenue in the truck stops and rv parks and that's great. I want to see if "Joe the plumber" is someone who I can market to as well.
