THe Law & Mailboxes???
Hello all fellow technicians!
I have a quick one here, I have been thinking of some NEW ways to market and have this idea of placing my marketing brochures inside plastic baggies along with a business card, chip saver and a current sales flyer on the mailboxes. Basically hang the bag off the box or the flag. I do know it is illegal to open someones mailbox here in the U.S. and insert anything into it unless you are an authorized mail agent.
I have at one time done the Flyer in a sheet protector and chunked them into peoples driveway. Didn't have too much of a success with that one. I think people may have taken that offensively as if I were trying to litter their property.
Are any of you trying any of these tactics?

Re: THe Law & Mailboxes???
Hey Chad, I don't know about your area but here in NM identity theft is on the rise. We have had identity thieves target mail boxes. So for me if I am out and about in neighborhoods I don't mess with the mailboxes. I do however from time to time go and meet my neighbors. My neighbors are in every neighborhood in my city. When things slow down a bit I will take a stack of flyers and biz cards and target a neighborhood and just go talk to people. Folks seem to be pretty receptive to what I am doing and I have yet not had any negative situations happen. As long as I present myself in a professional manner I don't have any problems.

Glasstime,
I agree with Dr. Chiptser on this one. Leave mailboxes alone. You can still do the same idea by hanging the bags of information on the DOOR KNOBS of homes. I use this method sometimes. But, don't expect to receive an overly large amounts of calls. Yes I do get calls from doing this. I mostly target upscale neighborhoods when I do this. Mostly where both spouses work.
You can find bags that have holes in them large enough to put over the door knobs. If you know an AVON salesperson ask them to let you purchase bags from them and you could alos partner with them. Let them put your flyers and business cards in thier bags and you put thier catalog in your bags. Just a thought.

Re: THe Law & Mailboxes???
Well I defiantely want to abide by the law. The last thing I need is for someone to acuse me or my associates of stealing their mail or their identity at that!
The AVON idea is awesome. The funny thing is my wife and I know several AVON reps! I even know where they meet!!! :
Now I know several people whom do tag "Paper" boxes! Never asked them how that works out for them.
Thanks' for all of your guys ideas!

Hey,
Maybe I am just dumb but can you explain this a little more. Sounds interesting and I would like to find
out a little more.
As far as the Avon idea. One of the reps in my area suggested it me. It don't bring in a lot of repairs but
the ones that I get are almost free. All I have to pay for is the printing. It brings in several calls per week
and one or two sales.

Re: THe Law & Mailboxes???
Sure! Sorry to have delayed this for some time now.
Basically, you can pick up these baggies from either craft stores or office stores. The baggies have handles and are just the right size to insert a folded flyer, brochure ect. Whatever marketing material you would like to use, you can just slip right in. What you do is most "Mailboxes" and "Paper Boxes" alike have something on them that you can hang the little baggies from.
I have even seen waterproof type bags same size that would be much better in case it rains!!!!
I'm going to try it out and see what results I have with it. I am also going to began getting more involved in local venues that goes on throughout the year!I think I'll get some signage from Delta and pop a tent with a table and a nice cloth to place over the table. Have some photo and a piece of Lammy with some before and after chips and a headlight or two with restoration done on half of each!
Just little ideas! Hey another thing that has helped me out extremely is I purchased the Business Card Caddy' from Delta. You stick them on your vehicle and let them do the work from there. They allow potential client's the ability to retrieve a business card from the holder by themselves. I wished I had only developed that product......I'd be rich!

Re: THe Law & Mailboxes???
Chad ! Several years ago I used the post office to distribute flyers for another business that I owned. You can target areas of your community. Upscale neighborhoods, middle calss sections, business districts etc...
I had obtained a mailing list and spent hours typing address lables. It was only after my visit to the local Post office that I discovered their service. I found it cheaper and less time consuming to allow the post office to del & target the market I wanted. I paid less than $100 per zone I selected, if memory serves me correctly. I haven't done this with My WSR /HLR business yet. I do advertize on the local Chamber of Commerce webb site for about $19 a year. That site gets about 7K hits a month according to the Chamber. I change the ad monthly, and offer discounts to Chamber members, seniors, groups and students. Just for your information Iam not getting that many jobs from that site at the moment. Face to Face, referals and repeat customers are my money makers and the cost is small compared to all the other avenues to generate leads. I even gave the Avon District Manager my flyers with a 20 % discount for her sales peoples. Only got a few HLR from that.
