Can you still get paid by the insurance if you forgot to get the VIN Number?

try calling the insurance agent, introduce yourself, and explain not obtaining vin # was a simple oversight. If they hesitate offer to confirm other policyholder info so they know you are legit. After they give you the info make sure you thank them for their time and trouble. I hope you got their signature authorizing repair services.

if you know where the owner lives or works and it is close. Drive over there and get the VIN that is visible through the windshield. Hopefully, it is not garaged or something like that. Good Luck

I'm actually surprised that customer refuses to give Vin# info over the phone. Were they not happy with the repair or provided service? I'm not sure I would follow them around or stalk them for this info as both time and driving cost money.
I personally would chalk this one up as a learning experience. JMO
