Re: Insurance billing setup
Yeah, that's the way I used to do also. I don't know what the current deal is with networks. I rarely do any insurance work. Once in a while I will have someone request to use me, and get a call from Alliance to dispatch the work and agree to pricing. Other than that, I just collect from the customer and let them submit the bill to their agent if they want to. Most times they either don't want to mess with their insurance, or they will call and get steered before I show up to do it anyway. That's ok though, because I'm busy taking care of a few dozen accounts instead.
Maybe someday, I will be more interested in chasing that stuff. I imagine it's a lot nicer to do cash/check/credit on the spot though. That's better than tracking payments from a PITA network for weeks on end. I know some will get up in arms here... but theoretically speaking, I would even give up a percentage of the $$$ to get paid direct on the spot, vs what I would get from insurance. I'm not saying we should do that, or have to do that.... just that I would be willing to, if that option was given.

The thing about Safelite, Harmond, LYNX etc... is that you must carry insurance, and in some cases required to have a certification from NWRA or from National Glass. They will send you referrals from time to time. and You are listed on their repair shops approval list. I have a website and I get quite a few hits, but only a few actually fill out the contact sheet. They get my name and number and some will call me first. A vast majority need replacement. The others call their agent or TPA and more often than not sent to a prefered shop instead of calling me for a mobile repair. When I talked to people that do forward me a contact request from the website, they often tell me that they also called their agent or TPA and was sent somewhere else. Some that told the TPA they wanted my shop, I actually got a call from the dispactcher. However several told me that they were encouraged or advised to use another prefered shop. I dont really rely on insurance companies, but when I invest in the web and YP and They call to request me , I should be the first the dispatcher calls insetad of a rotation or prefered only shop. I had about 4 WSR jobs last week from insurance companies.

Re: Insurance billing setup
i can see how word of mouth and fleets would be a heck of alot better money than dealing with that INS Co. mess. At least until you become well known in the areas for your outstanding work. 4 jobs are better than none i suppose

A good mixture of fleets and retail is the ideal set up, with fleets constituting about 85% of your income. Multiple streams of income, so to speak.

I think I would prefer retail and fleet also. I am still gona try to get my "preffered status" with lynx and safelite and just see what happends with that. I have 3 pretty large trucking companies within 10 miles of my house so I would like to get hooked up with those. Used car dealers are also in abundance around here.

Re: Insurance billing setup
If i can get enough fleets and retail, i could get my 19yr old daughter into this as well. Since she has no idea (for now) on what she wants to do for school. Even my wife could come and help me on the super busy days.t4k wrote:A good mixture of fleets and retail is the ideal set up, with fleets constituting about 85% of your income.
