Fix While You Shop
Personally, I give my "shopping" customers an option .....
They can either return in 30 minutes and inspect my repair, else, they keep their keys, I will lock their doors, and they can gather their vehicle anythime that they care to.
Normally, they give me their cell number and I call them when done and they ususally show up within a few minutes. However, If they want me to hang around for hours, I'll bill them for those hours;)!

NEED TRAINING
I don't need to be on the inside of the customers car. I process the paperwork and phone call, hand the customer a copy, and have them lock up. Like Dave C I try to get a cell number because I think it is common courtesy and good customer service to let them know the work is done and you will be leaving shortly.

Hey SMT are you using an inspection mirror? Or do you just lock it in the customers car and get it when they return? Just curiousI don't need to be on the inside of the customers car.

My best mentor one said " be fair with your priceing but never too low, be honest with your customer/competition, when the day is done be sure you have done "good works", and always leave something of value on the barganing table!!
