When is UV bounce a good thing?

uv will NOT reflect off mirror on inside of glass and cure chemical....only {Name removed upon request of manufacturer} will cure from light off mirror

I'll explain my answer when I have more time. It's not a trick or a game. Just thought that someone may have run into the same situation I did.

Oh and Glasstarz, you are wrong. There is a situation that can happen during a wsr that makes UV bounce a good thing.

Ok, here's the story. I get contacted for a Safeco referal, speak with the customer, get directions to their home and head that way to do the job. When I arrive the lady tells me she will have to leave in her other vehicle to go to an appointment she has. She asks if she can go ahead and sign the invoice since I've done work for her before and she knows I'll do a good job for her. I tell her I need to get her policy number to go on the invoice and she hands me her insurance card since she had it from calling in her claim. I write it down on the invoice and she signs it. I ask her if the vehicle I will be working on is unlocked and she says yes. As I'm getting my equipment out to start the job, she backs out in her other car, gives me a wave goodbye and leaves. I get set-up to do the work and when I go to put my mirror inside I find out that her car is locked. No big deal, I've done plenty of quality repairs without the benefit of a mirror, so I proceed to fix the bullseye on her windshield. I get a perfect looking repair filled, get my pit filler and tab in place and grab my uv light to get it cured. But my light will not come on. It turns out that one of the wires is broken inside of the plug so the light won't work. Normally this would not be a problem because I always carry two battery packs but I had forgot the other one. So I have no way to use my uv light and the car is locked so I don't have the option of plugging in inside the car. On top of that, the car is parked in the driveway in a spot where the windshield is completely shaded from the sun. No option of sun curing this repair either. So I think, what the heck can I do to get this repair cured?
I grab my mirror and stand out to the side of the vehicle where the sun is shining and direct that sunlight back onto my repair. It gave me a very bright sunlit area on my repair that was about the size of 3" diameter circle and it seemed to be a very intense amount of light. I stood there holding that mirror in the right spot for about 8 minutes, giving it more time than normal because I wasn't sure how well it would cure. But it worked perfectly and cured like a charm! I completed the repair and was on my way. I headed back to my shop to get my other battery pack so I could finish the day with power.
So that day, being able to redirect or bouce those uv rays was a good thing!

This is something Novus used too use in the early days, it has since been discovered that just being in the shade will not gaurantee no UV as there is such a thing as indirect UV. I have posted about this before when answering questions on why some guys struggle with stars not filling. For those of you willing to try one of my experiments, Place a small drop of pit fill and curing film over the top on a glass in the shade, I do not mean indoors but maybe just inside a garage door or under a shady tree or even just the other side of the car away from the sun. You will be suprised how quick it sets. This is something we show trainees to get them to use a UV shield when filling.

I carry 3 UV lights, 2 battery packs and 2 spare bulbs. I ain't standing outside a car with a mirror looking like I'm trying call for help by boucing UV.

be prepared. also even if you are not in the dirrect sun you will get enough uv to cure it just takes awhile if you can see there is uv just in smaller doses. Using a mirror to reflect and thinking you have achieved something amazing because you were unprepared is?

I normally am prepared. this was just one of those unexpected occurances. Did I call it amazing? No, all I did was find a way to get the job done. I suppose you are perfect and have never encountered a situation that you weren't prepared for? Making snide remarks because you are rude and thinking you have said something amazing is?
